TOKYO – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the release of two new COOLPIX L-series digital cameras. L-series cameras combine the simple operation and functions that make using a digital camera enjoyable. The COOLPIX L120 is a high-power zoom model offering 21X optical zoom, adjusted via the side zoom control, and a high-definition LCD monitor in an elegant design. The COOLPIX L23 is an entry-level model with enhanced automatic functions that enable simple operation, making shooting easier and more enjoyable.

The COOLPIX L120 is successor to the L110. It offers an effective pixel count of 14.1-million pixels, a 21X optical zoom NIKKOR lens that covers a broad range of focal lengths from wide-angle 25mm through super-telephoto 525mm (35mm format equivalent), and a 3-inch, approximately 921k-dot (VGA) TFT LCD monitor with wide viewing angle. In addition, new features to improve the performance of this high-power zoom L-series model, including a new side zoom control and flash pop-up button, have been adopted without any sacrifice to the elegant design or compact size.
Further, the power-efficient The COOLPIX L120 is capable of capturing approximately 330 still images or roughly three hours and five minutes of HD movies with stereo sound using the supplied AA alkaline batteries.

The COOLPIX L23 allows for the capture of beautiful photos with simple operation through features such as an effective pixel count of 10.1-million pixels, a built-in 5X optical zoom NIKKOR lens, and the Easy Auto shooting mode. What's more, additional features such as the large and clear 2.7-inch, approximately 230k-dot (QVGA) TFT LCD monitor and support for common AA batteries that can be purchased just about anywhere make this compact camera extremely easy to operate, even for beginners.

COOLPIX L120 Primary Features

1. A 21X optical zoom NIKKOR lens that covers a broad range of focal lengths from wide-angle 25mm through super-telephoto 525mm (35mm format equivalent)

Equipped with a 21X optical zoom NIKKOR lens, this camera supports shooting at a broad range of focal lengths from 25mm to 525mm (35mm format equivalent). It is practical for shooting of a wide variety of scenes, from everyday snapshots to dynamic landscape photos, and also supports macro photography with shooting as close as just 1 cm to the subject. The camera is also equipped with two image stabilization functions-vibration reduction (VR) using an image sensor shift method and electronic VR-that make shooting at even the maximum telephoto zoom position more enjoyable by ensuring certain capture of blur-free photos.

2. 3-inch, approximately 921k-dot TFT LCD monitor with wide viewing angle for bright and clear display under sunny skies or bright indoor lighting

The camera is equipped with a 3-in., approximately 921k-dot, wide viewing angle TFT LCD monitor for which a Clear Color Display has been adopted. Monitor display is bright and clear, making shooting, viewing images and applying settings easy, even under sunny skies or in rooms where light is reflected in the monitor. In addition, the expanded color reproduction range covers a broader range of colors for reproduction of almost the entire sRGB gamut.

3. Simple operation

Camera operation has been improved with the addition of a flash pop-up button that allows the user to raise the flash with the simple touch of a button, a large movie-record button that is easily manipulated, and a side zoom control positioned for comfortable use while recording movies. In addition, a new Pet Portrait scene mode has been added for automatic recognition and capture of dogs' and cats' faces.

4. Elegant design

The camera's high-quality design is both elegant and practical with simulated leather coating on the front surface and rubber coating on the grip for a more secure hold.

5. Recording of HD movies with stereo sound

The built-in HDMI connector enables display of HD movies recorded with the camera on a high-definition television by simply connecting the camera to the TV with a single cable. If the TV supports the CEC standard for HDMI, the TV's remote control can be used to control camera playback.

6. Powered by efficient AA batteries for hours of photo and movie recording

The COOLPIX L120 is capable of capturing approximately 330 still images or roughly three hours and five minutes of HD movies using the supplied AA alkaline batteries. When using the camera away from home, support for these batteries that may be purchased anywhere enables worry-free shooting.

1. Effective pixel count of 10.1-million pixels and 5X optical zoom NIKKOR lens

Equipped with a 5X optical zoom NIKKOR lens, this camera supports shooting at focal lengths beginning at the wide-angle 28mm (35mm format equivalent). This enables users to zoom in on subjects, as well as use macro photography at a shooting distance as close as 3 cm to the subject.

2. Large and clear 2.7-in. TFT LCD monitor

A large and clear 2.7-inch, approximately 230k-dot (QVGA) TFT LCD monitor has been adopted for the COOLPIX L23.

3. Simple and reliable shooting functions

The camera identifies the subject and shooting conditions and then automatically applies the optimal scene mode, making capture of beautiful photos simple without the need for manual scene mode selection. Sharp and clear photos are further ensured with three additional functions that reduce blur: electronic vibration reduction (VR), motion detection and Best Shot Selector (BSS), which automatically captures ten shots in quick succession and then chooses the sharpest image for recording.

4. Refined design for a slimmer image

An elegant, refined appearance has been achieved with the addition of high-gloss lines (decorative bands) around the lens and on the sides of the camera. In addition, the camera's gently curved design not only makes it easier to hold with shooting, but also gives it a slimmer image.

5. Powered by AA batteries readily available anywhere

The camera supports alkaline and lithium AA batteries that can be purchased anywhere. Batteries that are exhausted while away from home are easily replaced, enabling worry free shooting.
