Nikon Corporation (President: Makoto Kimura; Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) and LSI Medience Corporation (President: Shinichi Yoshihara; Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) have entered into a basic alliance agreement regarding business in the areas of health and medical care.
Through this agreement, Nikon, a manufacturer of optical equipment, and LSI Medience, a company involved in testing- and analysis-related business in the health care field, will combine their technology, knowledge, and experience to develop groundbreaking equipment and services for the health and medical business of the future and open up new markets.
As the first cooperative effort, both companies will combine their resources to work towards development and commercialization of small-size POCT (Point of Care Testing*) devices that can be quickly and easily used in clinical practice. In addition, both companies will start work towards commercialization of high-speed, high-sensitivity testing systems for assisting in diagnosis of a wide range of illnesses such as cancer, infectious diseases, allergies, and autoimmune disorders.
- *POCT: Instant testing performed in examination rooms or at bedside in hospitals as well as private homes and clinics.
Nikon's medium-term management plan aims for development of new business in the areas of health and medical care with a specific focus on the areas of analysis and diagnosis. In particular, Nikon will address previously unmet medical needs by utilizing optics technology and precision control technology to develop minimally invasive and non-invasive testing and diagnostic systems. Through this partnership with LSI Medience, in addition to working towards commercialization in the areas of analysis and diagnosis, Nikon will promote establishment of a business base for the future.
LSI Medience has accumulated a wealth of technology, know-how, and experience in the areas of testing and analysis in the health care field through clinical testing for medical institutions, in vitro diagnostic reagents and instruments for clinical testing, and a variety of pre-clinical studies as well as clinical trials for drug development by pharmaceutical companies.
