Nikon CSR REPORT 2009, issued by Nikon Corporation (Makoto Kimura, President, Tokyo), has received Notable status on Communication on Progress (Notable COP) from the UN Global Compact. This is the second consecutive year that Nikon CSR REPORT has received such recognition, following Nikon CSR REPORT 2008 of the previous year.
Nikon has been participating in the UN Global Compact since July, 2007. The UN Global Compact was proposed by then United Nations Secretary General Kofi Anan in 1999 and officially installed in 2000 at UN Headquarters in New York. It seeks participating companies and organizations to support and voluntarily align their operations and strategies with the Ten Principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption.
The participating companies and organizations are required to submit their Communication on Progress (COP), which is an annual report describing their activities to attain the Ten Principles. Among the submitted COPs examined by the UN Global Compact office in New York, based on the set criteria, outstanding COPs are recognized as Notable COP.
The Nikon CSR REPORT 2009 has furthermore been recognized as Good Practice for its most outstanding contents by the Global Compact Japan Network (GC-JN), and received their first year award. GC-JN, consisting of Japanese organizations participating in the UN Global Compact, started to recognize excellent COPs from last year.
Nikon strives to continue its commitment to the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, and to carry out CSR-oriented business operations that are highly transparent.
