Notification of Results of the Squeezeout Public Bid on Metris NV

Tokyo, October 21, 2009 — The Board of Directors of Nikon Corporation (hereinafter, the Company), at its meeting of June 3, 2009, made the decision to commence (through NIMD SPRL, a wholly-owned Belgian subsidiary) a public voluntary and conditional takeover bid in cash for all outstanding shares and warrants of Metris NV (hereinafter, respectively, the Takeover Bid and Metris). The prospectus related to the Takeover Bid was approved by the Belgian Banking, Finance and Insurance Commission on June 23, 2009 (hereinafter, the Prospectus). As a result of 95.04% of the outstanding shares of Metris having been tendered following the mandatory reopening of the Takeover Bid which ended on September 18, 2009, NIMD SPRL has proceeded from September 28, 2009 to October 16, 2009 to undertake a squeeze-out public bid in accordance with Section 2.2.7 of the Prospectus. All shares and warrants which were not tendered to the squeeze-out public bid were transferred to NIMD SPRL by operation of law on October 16, 2009. As a result, Metris has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company.

In addition, Metris' shares were delisted from NYSE Euronext Brussels as from October 19, 2009.
