Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the release of the COOLPIX S4000 and S3000, S-series models that incorporate advanced functions in a stylish design.

The COOLPIX S4000 and S3000 are successors to the COOLPIX S230 and S220, cameras that set record sales worldwide with advanced operations and high performance in a slim, stylish design available in a variety of colors (the COOLPIX S4000 and COOLPIX S230 are equipped with a touch panel). The two new cameras offer improved shooting functions for greater convenience, and the slim body has a high-quality design available in a variety of colors to suit individual preferences and style. In addition to an effective pixel count of 12-million pixels and a wide-angle 4x optical zoom NIKKOR lens that begins at 27mm (35mm format equivalent), the cameras offer several new features including four functions that prevent or reduce blur, smart portrait mode with a skin softening function, and high-definition movie recording capability (the COOLPIX S4000 only).

 

Nikon COOLPIX S4000/S3000 Shared Features

• An effective pixel count of 12.0 million pixels. A slimmer body equipped with a wide-angle 4x optical zoom NIKKOR lens
  The cameras offer an effective pixel count of 12.0 million pixels. Both are equipped with an optimized image processing system based on EXPEED, Nikon's exclusive image processing concept that enables capture of beautiful, high-resolution images. The slim bodies are equipped with a wide-angle 4x optical zoom NIKKOR lens that exhibits superior rendering performance beginning at the maximum wide-angle position of 27mm (35mm format equivalent) for flexible and fun zoom photography.
• Smart portrait mode for consistently beautiful portraits
  

  1.	Skin softening: Linked to the face-priority function, the camera detects and smoothes skin tones
  2.	Face-priority AF: This function enables not only beautiful portraits, but also makes capturing group photos faster and easier
  3.	Smile timer: The camera recognizes a face and focuses on that face; when that face smiles, the shutter is automatically released
  4.	Blink proof: The camera captures two sequential shots and saves the one in which the subject's eyes are open
  5.	Blink warning: The camera displays a warning message when it detects that the subject may have blinked when the picture was taken
  6.	In-Camera Red-Eye Fix: If the camera detects red-eye in the captured image, digital processing is automatically performed to reduce red-eye before the image is saved

• Four features that effectively prevent or reduce blur caused by camera shake and subject movement
  

  1.	Electronic vibration reduction (VR): Digital compensation applied with image processing to images in which the camera detects blur
  2.	Support for high sensitivities: The camera supports sensitivities up to ISO 3200 for beautiful pictures taken at an image size of 4000 x 3000 pixels
  3.	Motion detection: The camera detects camera shake and subject movement with shooting, and automatically compensates by increasing shutter speed and ISO sensitivity. Blur is reduced to a level equal to a roughly 2-step increase in shutter speed.
  4.	Nikon's own BSS (best shot selector): The camera automatically shoots up to ten sequential frames and saves the one with the sharpest focus

• Bodies with a functionally stylish design available in a wide variety of colors
  The attractive and stylish camera bodies are designed with a smooth, rounded form and glossy components. The larger operational buttons on the back of the camera and the rotating zoom control on the top of the camera are optimally positioned for simple operation. The COOLPIX S4000 is available in six colors and the COOLPIX S3000 in eight colors, allowing for selection of the color best suited to individual lifestyle.

• Subject tracking automatically tracks subjects to maintain focus
  This function automatically recognizes human faces and then initiates subject tracking to follow the movement of the recognized subject. When a face is not automatically recognized, the target for subject tracking can be manually specified. The camera will automatically track the specified subject as it moves to continuously keep it in focus. Should the specified subject temporarily leave the frame for less than three seconds, the camera will resume tracking it once it re-enters the frame.

Nikon COOLPIX S4000 Primary Features

1.	Easier to use touch panel for intuitive operation The COOLPIX S4000 offers a number of new functions, including touch shutter for autofocusing and shooting by simply tapping the desired subject in the monitor, subject tracking with which the camera maintains focus on the subject selected by simply tapping it in the monitor, and white balance adjustment using a slider. Intuitive touch panel operation makes picture playback and in-camera editing smooth and fun. The stylus included with the camera can be used to write or draw on pictures and frames and decorations can be added to pictures using the camera's paint function, the shooting date can be added as a decoration anywhere in the image, images can be selected from a thumbnail display, and display of images can be navigated by sliding a finger across the monitor.
2.	3-in., approximately 460k-dot, wide-viewing angle TFT LCD monitor The high-resolution 3-in., approximately 460k-dot TFT LCD monitor offers even clearer, more stunning display. What's more, operation has been improved with a new GUI and intuitive button shapes for controls displayed in the monitor.
3.	Recording of HD movies with sound The camera is equipped with a function for recording movies in AVI format. Autofocusing during movie recording and up to 2x zoom are possible.
