Digital Camera COOLPIX 885

Aug. 2001

TOKYO - Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the COOLPIX 885 Digital Camera, on August 23, 2001.

A compact, lightweight digital still camera featuring 3.2 effective megapixels, the COOLPIX 885 was developed as a successor to the highly acclaimed COOLPIX 880. It is a mid-range model in the Nikon COOLPIX series, which features superior image quality and ease of use.

The camera's core users reach from beginners to advanced amateurs who seek to take superior pictures easily with a high-grade camera, and who look forward to greater adventure in digital photography, such as through a wide range of accessories.

Nikon's newly developed 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens, with its 8-24mm (equivalent to 38-114mm in 35mm [135] camera format) focal range, delivers exceptional optical performance, and together with the 3.2 effective megapixels, ensures images of remarkable color, contrast and clarity. The ultracompact and lightweight design offers unparalleled portability and an ergonomic, easy-grip design ensures easy operation. General-use AUTO and the 12 Scene Modes (including the new Museum mode) for specific settings enable users to capture the essence of every picture while experiencing a new dimension of digital photography fun and convenience. One-button data transfer simplifies image data uploading. And the new Small Picture function produces reduced-size pictures for e-mail and use on the internet. The COOLPIX 885 comes with essential accessories -- including the rechargeable battery and charger*, CompactFlash™ Card, USB cable and software. With a lens adapter, it can accept various converters, such as Wideangle, Telephoto and Fisheye. And an optional LCD hood increases LCD monitor visibility when shooting in daylight. With so many features and accessories, and a remarkably easy-to-use design the COOLPIX 885 promises to win over countless new users to the increasingly exciting field of digital photography.

* Depending on the country or area, the battery and charger may not be included, but will be available as an option.

Note: Specifications, design, product name and standard accessories may differ by country or area.

Nikon COOLPIX 885 Feature Highlights

High-performance 3x zoom

The COOLPIX 885’s 3x Zoom-Nikkor lens features professional-quality aspherical lens elements and a focal range of 8-24mm (equivalent to 38-114mm in 35mm [135] camera format) to deliver super-sharp images of near or distant subjects.

Brilliant, vivid images

The COOLPIX 885 uses a 1/1.8-in. type CCD. 3.2 effective megapixels deliver ultrahigh-definition 2,048 x 1,536-pixel images of brilliant, detailed expression. Nikon’s proven advanced image-processing algorithm delivers remarkably authentic color reproduction.

Versatile operation for beginner and expert

The COOLPIX 885's general-purpose Auto mode and 12 programmed Scene Modes make it easy to capture optimal image results for a wide variety of situations. Anyone, even a novice photographer, can take great images simply by choosing the appropriate mode for the next picture.

Landscape
Captures distant scenes with postcard-like sharpness and clarity.
Sunset
Enables users to capture the natural beauty of sunsets.

Produces clear indoor pictures without triggering the flash.

* Note: In some museums and exhibitions, it is prohibited to take pictures, even without flash. Be sure to obtain permission before taking any pictures.

Fireworks Show
Instantly responds to the shutter release button to capture fireworks at the ideal moment.
Close Up
Takes up-close pictures with an artistically blurred background.

Renders clear black and white reproductions of text or drawings from a white board or printed matter.
Back Light
Speedlight fires automatically to illuminate the shadows that cover a subject with automatic flash.

Smart, portable design

Compact and lightweight (225g/7.9 oz.), with a style that looks as good as the pictures it takes, the COOLPIX 885 is fully portable and always ready for instant use. Its ergonomic, easy-to-grip body fits snugly in the hand, with all essential controls placed within comfortable reach.

Quick-and-easy image transfer
The COOLPIX 885’s TRANSFER button enables one-touch data upload* via the USB cable, automatically transferring selected pictures in the COOLPIX 885 straight to the user’s computer.

*Requires Nikon View 4 software (supplied).

Convenient e-mail image data transfer
