In May 2001, Nikon produced its 30 millionth F-mount Nikkor lens, a historic achievement which is proof positive of the superior quality and popularity of Nikkor lenses.
F-mount Nikkor lenses were originally designed and produced as interchangeable lenses compatible with the Nikon F. This lens, along with the cameras functionality that was well ahead of its time, made the Nikon F the top SLR of its day. And now the number of F-mount Nikkor lenses has reached 30 million -- a testament to our commitment to quality and innovation over the 40 years since the first lens was produced. We at Nikon wish to express our sincerest gratitude to all of you who have recognized and enjoyed the supreme quality of our F-mount Nikkor lenses over the years.
The F-mount Nikkor lens, in terms of specifications, was designed in accordance with the pre-production version of the Nikon F. We created approximately 360 F-mount lenses, all of which evolved from this first design, particularly the original standards for connecting parts. This makes F-mount lenses eminently compatible with Nikon SLR cameras, whether film or digital.
F-mount Nikkor lenses have evolved constantly, helping broaden the possibilities of photography, by incorporating such revolutionary technologies as meter coupling, CPU contact, an autofocus function and a vibration reduction function.
Our hope is that our lenses give their owners many, many years of faithful service and enjoyment. Combined with the need to keep pace with the ever-changing needs of our users, this illustrates the magnitude of the challenges Nikon has encountered, and how we have successfully faced and conquered each and every obstacle.
In order to gain and maintain the trust of users worldwide, we at Nikon will endeavor to continue our investigation of cutting-edge technologies, while never losing sight of the concepts that have made us what we are today -- unsurpassed quality, uniqueness, and constant innovation.
